National Guard alerts about fraud with false job offers on WhatsApp

Cybercrimes continue to increase in Mexico and now false job offers spread by WhatsApp have become one of the most common types of fraud. Given this scenario, the National Guard issued a preventive alert to warn the population, especially those who are looking for work.

According to the authority, criminals take advantage of the ease of contact offered by the messaging application to send unsolicited messages, in which they promise attractive salaries, flexible schedules and immediate hiring, with the aim of generating trust in the victims.

In many cases, the messages appear to come from formal companies or professional recruiters. However, once the person responds, scammers begin asking for personal information, official documents, or banking details. In other cases, they ask to make payments for supposed procedures, courses or administrative expenses, a practice that constitutes a clear sign of fraud.

HOW DO SCAMMERS OPERATE?

The National Guard explained that this type of deception usually begins with a short message sent from unknown numbers. Subsequently, the supposed recruiters insist on maintaining all communication exclusively through WhatsApp, avoiding in-person interviews or formal hiring processes.

It has also been detected that criminals send links or files that can be used to steal personal information or install malicious software on devices. To appear legitimate, they often use names, logos, or references of real companies without authorization.

WARNING SIGNS YOU SHOULD NOT IGNORE

The authorities stressed that no serious company requests payments to hire personnel, nor requests sensitive data without a formal and verifiable process. Therefore, any request for money, urgency to respond or request for confidential information should be considered an immediate alert.

Given the increase in these crimes, the National Guard issued the following recommendations:

• Always verify the authenticity of job offers.
• Consult directly the official sites of the companies.
• Be wary of messages with exaggerated promises or urgency.
• Do not share personal, banking or official documents via messaging.
• Do not open suspicious links or files.
• Activate security measures such as two-step verification.
