
The Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT) obtained historic results in the 2025 National University Sports Games, organized by the Sports Commission of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), by winning a total of 24 medals, consolidating its presence on the national sports scene.
In this edition, which brought together athletes from more than eighty higher education institutions in the country in various venues throughout the year, the UAT athletic delegation won seven gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals, far surpassing the mark registered in 2024, when the University obtained eight medals.
This growth reflects the strengthening of university sports in the institution and the commitment of its community to excellence and improvement, driven by the vision of the rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado, who has promoted the comprehensive development of students through the promotion of physical and sports activities.
Among the most notable performances were José Alfredo Quintá López, who confirmed his hegemony in judo; Roberto Garza Sánchez, gold medal in taekwondo; Brandon Alan Romo Beltrán, fencing champion; and Estefanía Lee Argüello, from the Victoria Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, who shone in swimming by winning two gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Miguel Ángel Fuentes and Eduardo Sagástegui also contributed to the golden harvest, with their outstanding team participation in judo, as well as the women’s fencing trident made up of Regina Pedraza, Alejandra Badillo and Yllen Guzmán, who won first place nationally.
Likewise, the UAT added silver medals thanks to the performance of Eduardo Sagástegui (judo), Patricia Estrada (taekwondo), Leonardo Sánchez (taekwondo), Luisaldo Cortez (associated fights), Regina Pedraza (fencing), Lesly López (kick boxing) and again Estefanía Lee (swimming), in addition to the fencing team made up of Brandon Romo, Eduardo Sánchez and Edgar Velázquez.
The medal table was completed with bronze medals obtained by Miguel Fuentes (judo), Natalia Sarmiento (taekwondo), Rodrigo Castillo (karate), Óscar García (karate), Laura Zamora (karate), Sandor Grimany (wrestling), Alejandra Badillo (fencing), Estefanía Lee (swimming) and the archery duo made up of Jhafet Barrios and Jorge Gómez.
The competitions were held in venues such as the University of Guadalajara, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) and the Autonomous University of Coahuila (UAdeC), with the participation of more than 100 UAT athletes distributed across 12 disciplines.
It is worth mentioning that, within these games, the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas also served as the venue for the softball championship, reaffirming its commitment to promoting university sports and organizing national events.
The effort, discipline and perseverance of the athletes reflect the values that distinguish the university community and reaffirm the commitment of the rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado to continue promoting sports talent, promoting well-being, integration and university pride that characterizes the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas.
