This morning, Orange has experienced a general interruption of its service in Spain, which has prevented calls from being made to mobile phones of other companies, a rather unusual incident just a week after the fall of X (formerly Twitter).
Vodafone assured EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre that their services were working correctly without problems.
Downdetector began receiving thousands of reports from users about problems with Orangehighlighting that the failure focused on calls that could not be connected to mobile phones from other operators.
By 1:05 p.m., the Downdetector page, known for being the reference for checking failures in services or digital platforms, registered a maximum of 3,423 reports.
Orange quickly communicated that they were working to resolve the problem that had blocked calls to mobile phones of users with different operators, such as Movistar or the aforementioned Vodafone.
The company announced that the general failure in Spain would solve in approximately 20 minutes.
And so it was, since around 1:11 p.m. Calls to mobile phones from other operators were restored, allowing the service to return to its usual normality.
In our tests in EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre, when trying to make a call to another mobile phone, the call was simply cut off.
Certainly, Orange effectively resolved a problem that initially seemed like it could be more serious, so they deserve credit for their quick intervention.
Although these types of outages are not common, they can occur, and typically do not affect the entire country; The operators usually handle them properly.
Unlike what happened in previous months with Cloudflare or AWS of Amazon, which paralyzed almost half the internet.
Cloudflare experienced two significant outages in a short period between November and December, affecting essential services and making it clear that, if this system fails, platforms such as LinkedIn or online games such as Fortnite will be interrupted.
The situation was so serious that, after a first incident on November 18, the problems were repeated on December 5.
